Bude to Tintagel
So its 9:30 am on Monday 20th May and me, H and H are in Bude on the north Cornish coast. We're back-packed up to the gunnels and ready to commence our 7 day "run" to Land's End, some 140 miles away to the south west.
The thing about coastal path running when you're also carrying huge backpacks (Hester's pack weighed in at 9 kilos, I'm guessing mine was 10 kilos and even Harry's panniers were fully loaded) is that running is not especially easy to do. And particularly so on this stretch of coast line - our first day's destination was Tintagel with 22 miles of really uppy downy coastline (6,000 feet's worth of uppy-downyness in fact) to get through! So although we mainly ran the flat stretches and the not too lumpy down hill stretches, the uphills tended to be yomped/staggered.

Top = Bude to Crackington Haven and bottom = Crackington Haven to Tintagel |
So with overcast skies and a 'bit' of a wind blowing, off we jolly well went.....

The first of many, many beautiful sandy beaches between Bude and Land's End - this time Widemouth Bay |

Stunted oak woodland |

Coastalpath-aroos ahoy! |

Me with still bright shiny new fell shoes |

They still don't know how to do dry stone walls properly in Cornwall |

Bluebells and blue seas |

 |
Rocky Vale - so called because..... |
 |
The small and light backpack made for some easy running.... |
We eventually 'breezed' into Tintagel in the early evening backed by a fair to middling gale force wind, found a handy campsite on a wind battered headland (the campsite was actually called the Headland), most importantly found a wind sheltered pub in town for supper and beer before retiring to our little two person (and a sticky legged dog) tent for a very wind flappy night's sleep.
