Moughton from Horton

After Saturday's full on winter running in the Lake District, this evening me and Harry jumped straight into springtime in the Yorkshire Dales with a gorgeous early evening run. We started by the village hall and (non-mobile) mobile shop in Horton-in-Ribblesdale (that I had absolutely no idea were there until me and Hester recently stumbled across them) and ran through the fields to the Ribble, crossing that and running parallel for a while before turning hard right at Foredale, straight up the long grassy bank between Arcow and Dry Rigg quarries, onto the top of the Moughton plateau.

I've run over Moughton a few times before but have never been to the trig point so me and the Hazmeister (without the aid of maps or any mamby pamby stuff like that) set out to track it down. The top of the plateau has quite a few lumps and bumps on, all with their own little cairns, but we eventually tracked down the trig point, before returning via a fabulous limestone pavement and hitting the main Ingleborough to Horton track just below Sulber Nick.

I have to say it was truly fantastic up there this evening with me and Harry seemingly having all of the hills for miles around all to ourselves. The weather was perfect too and, in what turned out to be beautiful sunshine, it was my first T shirt run of the year so far.

Looking back towards Horton with Pen y Ghent beyond

Pen y Ghent again

Where's Wally?

Yep, its Pen y Ghent yet again!

Me and Haz not at the trig point - note the tooey sticky up stones

This wilderness all to ourselves

Me (sporting just a T shirt) and my furry sidekick

Pen y Ghent from Moughton trig.... with Harry's bum complimenting the shot perfectly

Our route back straight ahead

A bit limestoney then!
