Great Whernside, Buckden Pike and Firth Fell loop from Kettlewell

A grand tour of the peaks of Upper Wharfedale with Gavin and Harry this morning - we ran straight up Great Whernside, along the top and then down to Park Rash, up to Buckden Pike, down the other side to Buckden, up Firth Fell to the trig point and then ran along the Old Cote Moor Top ridge before dropping back to Kettlewell. 16.3 miles and 3,600 odd feet of climb according to Strava. As is usual with this run we were well and truly socked in the clouds on Great Whernside, Buckden Pike and the top of Firth Fell but, as soon as Kettlewell and the finish line came into view, the sun came out. Flipping typical!

As you might expect it was damn muddy and sloshy under foot with me going 'upper thigh' deep in a bog at one point. A brilliant route and a brilliant run all the same.

Ze route

Great Whernside trig vaguely visible in the fog and freezing wind

The Polish War Memorial, nearing Buckden PIke

Gavin hacking down towards Buckden

Near the end of a fantastic descent

Hazzer mit schtick

Looking back towards Buckden

Gav powering up Firth Fell with Harry looking on

Harry not far from the trig point on Firth Fell

The assault team for the day - me with my hair waved stylishly

Old Cote Moor Top.... with the old cote running on ahead (haha)

The sun's starting to come out

Harry admiring Upper Wharfedale

Whoops - Gavin crashes out

Kettlewell ahoy!

Yep, for the first time of the day we can see the top of Great Whernside!
